What Is Humatrope?

Humatrope (somatropin, rDNA origin) for Injection is a form of human growth hormone used to treat growth failure in children and adults who lack natural growth hormone, and in those with chronic kidney failure, Noonan syndrome, Turner syndrome, short stature at birth with no catch-up growth, and other causes. Humatrope is also used to prevent severe weight loss in people with AIDS, or to treat short bowel syndrome.

Humatrope may cause serious side effects including:

  • hives,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
  • shortness of breath,
  • coughing,
  • new or increased snoring,
  • pain in your knees or hips,
  • walking with a limp,
  • ear pain,
  • swelling, warmth or drainage from the ear,
  • numbness or tinging in your wrist, hand or fingers,
  • severe swelling or puffiness in your hands and feet,
  • changes in behavior,
  • vision problems,
  • unusual headaches,
  • changes in the shape or size of a mole,
  • pain or swelling in your joints,

  • Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
  • Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in your chest; shortness of breath; and sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out;
  • Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors.
